I had this epiphany last night while going to bed.
We often hear in the Bible that we are the chosen ones. "Israel is the chosen one". Catholics also have heard at some point or other that you, as an individual, are being waited on by God to get to know him. etc. etc.
But what does it mean?
Here is a shot:
If you are born as a Christian:
Since Christ's coming to the world, it has been roughly 2000 years. Life expectancy over these years have averaged anything between 30 years to 80 years. Let's average it to 50 years. That means between you and Christ, there were roughly 40 generations. Now, the fact that you are a Christian means that someone in you family in the past had the faith and decided to take out Christianity and Christ as the truth. That is what it means to be chosen. Out of those 40ish generations, one of them heard the call and you were chosen, as a result. Isn't that awesome? What are the chances of that? Realistically, if you crunch the numbers, the probability of you being born into a Christian family is quite minimal. But you were, and hence you are chosen.
The Gospel of Mathew has a genealogy of Christ tracing His roots to David. 42 generations in total. If we remain steadfast in faith, is there a chance that when we are 'called', we will have a similar genealogy and get to see our salvation history in play?
If you were not born as a Christian:
Well, this is your chance to start a new branch in your family tree. This 'Yes' to Christ has the potential to impact your family long after you are gone! How exciting is that? This viewpoint, for me, puts a whole new perspective when we say that we are the chosen one or that we will reside in the house of the Lord for all ages.
